Will my face look “frozen”?
No, your face won't look radically different. It's a myth that your face is "frozen" and you won't be able to make facial expressions. The best way to explain it is that the expressions you make subconsciously, out of habit (such as frowning), are reduced. If you want to look surprised, or to frown or express displeasure, you still have the ability to move those muscles with deliberate intent.
What does a treatment feel like, and how long does it take?
A treatment takes just a few minutes. In fact, you can do it during your lunch break — no recovery time needed. Your doctor examines your face, and how you use facial muscles to express yourself. Then she'll inject several small doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause deep frown lines between the brows (or to the muscles that cause crows' feet near your eyes).
There's minimal discomfort, and no anesthesia is required. If you wish, the doctor will numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream.
How does it work?
The proof for BOTOX® Cosmetic is in the numbers. In clinical trials, nearly 90% of men and women surveyed rated the improvement of frown lines between their brows as moderate to better one month after treatment.
BOTOX® Cosmetic was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65. This popular procedure has proved its effectiveness on millions of people every year.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that reduces movement of the muscles that cause frown lines between the brows to form over time. It blocks transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. Muscle movement is what causes the furrows; when movement is inhibited, wrinkles eventually fade.
NOTE: To maintain the results, simply continue receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments within four-month timeframes.
